11/2/2019 Underground Gamer Hyperspin Project
Hi All, I'm trying to find a good front end for my upcoming MAME project and I'm keen to try out Hyperspin after seeing the youtube clips of it. Only problem is, I'm a bit lost in the huge amount of downloadable available from the Hyperspin website, and have no idea what I need to get to get it running as per the youtube clips. I keep reading about EmuMovies and that apparently I need to download video packs from there to get preview videos from Hyperspin. Anyone found a good definitive guide on what to download and how to install it? Or better still, anyone have all the setup files that they might be willing to burn onto a DVD and post my way? (at my expense of course).

(at my expense of course). Click to expand.G'day Break. I'm using Hyperspin-fe as my frontend on a plain windows xp installation. It does take a little setting up but I can tell you that once you know what you’re doing its pretty easy. Hyperspin can run all the emulators for all the old consoles but I'm only using the MAME part at the moment. Currently i'm at around 400 mame games that run perfect.
Nothing worse than downloading a game then finding it doesn't work yet!! That's frigging anoying! For instruction on how to setup you need to go to and read the doc's section!! It's got everything you need to know on how to setup! I know cause I've read it and it's piss easy once you know what to do!
As for movies yes EmuMovies is the place to be but sign up for a small fee so you get FTP access cause that will save you a lot of time!! Piracy and Copyright Circumvention 1.

I was going to build my own cabinet but I ended up purchasing a 4 player upright cabinet over at from Troy in black. Mate it was worth every cent. It looks Absolutely amazing! My long time friends come around and say mate this is the most nerdest thing you've ever done! They all love it. Its hard to kick them out of my house cause they get on there drinking beers and play vandetta!!
I'll burn what I have to DVD for you. Currently my hyperspin folder is at 6.98 Gig.
I can fit that onto one dual layer dvd and post. At least this will get you started.
@Haxman Any chance of getting a copy of your install if I sent you a 2TB external drive, or just a 2TB internal drive if that's easier. I'm happy to pay postage both ways obviously, and would also be happy to make copies for someone else if they asked. I just can't imagine, with Australia's download limits as they are, that I'd be able to download that in anything less than 2 years! If you can't, no worries. I'm sure I'll chase it down somewhere. I know there's someone over on AussieArcade that has a big install like this as well who may share it also. @Haxman Any chance of getting a copy of your install if I sent you a 2TB external drive, or just a 2TB internal drive if that's easier.

Click to expand. When it comes to emulators, you just tell hyperspin what your emulator is, and where your ROMs, snapshots and movies are. It puts that together to make the menu part itself.
You need to do that once per emulator. Stand-alone PC games are different, of course. And again, there are plenty of packs available to download where people have done the configuration part for you (including snapshots and movies). All you need to do is unzip the file somewhere, get the emulator and ROMs, plonk them in the right folder, and you're off and running.
These front-ends aren't hard to configure. Hell, the last time I set up a front end it took me 2 hours, which was 10 minutes of install and 1 hour 50 minutes of making my own artwork.

I thought my girlfriend had a virus, and was going through her PC looking for stuff, we had only been going out a few months at that time. I came across a tonne of NES/SNES games, and thought OMG how did all these viruses get on here and started deleting.
The deletion process was taking forever as it had to delete a couple gig. Then I saw the sega, genisis, arcade, mame folders, while I was waiting for the deletion went into the sega folder and realized that perhaps it wasn't just viruses. So clicked on the sega emulator and low and behold it worked@! I just deleted 2gig of nintendo games!!! She had no idea how they got there or what they were.
So it was safe to assume it was a virus. Needless to say I'm a lot more careful when deleting things now.
Funny timing. I just finished upgrading my cabinet with a new PC running Hyperspin 1.2. I had a folder from a friend with a lot of the ROMs, emumovies stuff, artwork and so on. I ended up installing the following emulator configurations: - MAME - Neo Geo (uses Mame anyway, but has a separate wheel) - Sega Genesis - Sega Master System - Nintendo 64 - SNES - NES - Gameboy Advance I also have a lot of Amiga stuff I want to get working but that seems much more involved so I haven't done that yet. Like an earlier poster says, once you get into it it's not too difficult. The biggest bummer for me was that my N64 stuff was all in GoodROM (z64) format, meaning I needed to change them all to v64 format with No-Intro DB naming.
ClrMamePro helped a lot there, as I was able to repack my ROMs with suitable naming scheme. BTW, to get started just download the Hyperspin 1.0 package, and the 1.2 update. That includes all the tools you will need. After you install Hyperspin you will be able to run it straight away, in a default configuration.
Obviously none of the games work. Your next steps then are: 1. Use HyperHQ to configure the Hyperspin installation the way you need. File paths, keyboard shortcuts, and all that. Install all the emulators you need (I looked in the Hyperspin.ahk file to see the list of emulators that it needed) 3. You can chop names out of the Main Menu XML file in order to remove emulators from the main wheel that you don't want/need. Install the ROMs you want.
Install the artwork you want. This includes boxart, wheel art and any special artwork you want. Install the movies (emumovies) you want.
These are super handy as they give previews of all the games running as you scroll through.
